Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation conducted by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd. on land at Temple Circus Gyratory, Bristol. A range of constraints were encountered during the excavation of all 7 trenches and replacement trenches in the form of buried live services and the safety hazards associated with excavating deep evaluation trenches to archaeological horizons. Despite the technical constraints involved, it was possible to identify and record the state of preservation of the medieval Portwall in Trench 5 and Trench 7, which were both located to uncover the wall. Elsewhere, typically the evaluation trenches recorded significant truncation from modern services and groundworks, with some evidence for later post-medieval development of the area recorded in Trenches 6, 7, 10 and 11. |
