Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometer survey was conducted over land offof Stillington Road, Easingwold, North Yorkshire. The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. with the aim of establishing the presence, or otherwise, and nature of detectable archaeological features on the site ahead of a proposed development. The site comprises four arable fields to the southeast of Easingwold, approximately 18.6km NNW of York. The site occupies an area of gently sloping land and the gradiometer survey covered 6.1ha and has demonstrated the presence of a few anomalies of probable and possible archaeological interest within the survey area, along with regions of increased magnetic response. A pair of parallel ditches set on the same alignment and course of Stillington road was discovered along with a number of probable pits and agricultural features of relatively modern date. The geophysical survey was undertaken between the 4th and the8thOctober 2013. |
