Abstract:
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over 2.76 hectares of pasture. A number of anomalies have been identified which are probably caused by archaeological features. These consist of a circular shaped positive anomaly and several small anomalies which could represent pit features, as well as areas of widely spaced curving parallel linear anomalies. The latter are thought to be representative of ridge-and-furrow. Anomalies which are considered to be possibly related to archaeological features are also present. Several positive linear anomalies and a number of negative linear anomaly could indicate the presence of a possible cut feature of archaeological origin. Also, several groups of possible pit features have been identified. Throughout significant portions of the survey area, closely spaced parallel linear anomalies are present. These are most likely caused by agricultural activity such as ploughing. Also, magnetic disturbances related to nearby metallic objects are located in several areas towards the edge of the survey area. Areas of amorphous magnetic variation have been identified and are thought to have natural, geological origins. A singular magnetic spike is also visible, likely due to a ferrous object in the subsurface.
