Abstract: |
The initial strip, map and sample process comprised continuous observation during the removal of concrete, topsoil, subsoil and/or overburden. This was undertaken by a mechanical excavator fitted with a toothless ditching bucket under archaeological control. Soils were removed to the first archaeological horizon. Archaeological remains were
appropriately investigated and recorded in order that their date and character could be determined. The footings and fragments of flooring from three buildings were identified. The buildings’
phasing was indicated by the materials utilised and through map regression. The latest
phase was represented by a reinforced concrete floor context [06] and footing context [05]
which both contained rebar and were located at the northern end of site. |
