Abstract:		 A watching brief was carried out in advance of construction of a helipad at St Mary's Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight. The watching brief monitored initial ground bearing tests and then 200mm deep ground reduction for the concrete foundation of the helipad, an area of 625sqm. The site lies over a former burial ground of 19th and 20th century date. Modern made ground was observed over the entire helipad footprint and no archaeological resources of any date were observed.
