Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was mounted on the groundworks for new front and rear extensions to the church. The monitored groundworks consisted of the excavation of foundations. The area of the rear extension was within a man made terrace that was cut into a hillside at the time of the construction of the church in 1899. This had truncated any earlier archaeological activity.
The excavation of the foundations of the front extension revealed a buried soil horizon and a medieval stone wall foundation. this was part of the scheduled medieval Bishops Palace complex of Nettleham. The archaeological watching brief identified part of a medieval stone wall foundation that was considered to be a part of the scheduled medieval Bishops Palace site of Nettleham. |
