Abstract:		 All work was undertaken in accordance with the brief for archaeological monitoring and the written scheme of investigation. Archaeological monitoring was carried out at 1 Romans Place, Writtle, Essex during groundworks for an extension to the rear of the existing property. 1 Romans Place is a Grade II listed timber-framed house with later additions and is located within the Writtle Conservation Area. Monitoring revealed a thick layer of terracing make-up as well as a garden path, cobbled yard, culvert and well.
