Abstract: |
Archaeological watching brief on route of Aswarby to Harrowby water main identified three areas of archaeological remains. Area 1 included a stone building, possibly a previously unknown Roman villa of Antonine (mid 2nd century AD) date. Area 2 comprised a concentration of possible ditches containing 3rd to 4th century AD Roman remains indicating occupation and iron working, much of this material being redeposited along with early to middle Saxon occupation material. Area 3 contained evidence of a ceramic building material manufacturing site, possibly dating to around the 1840s. Each area was partially excavated. |
