A watching brief requires dueing residential development to the rear of 30 South Street, Caistor, Lincolnshire. The site is archaeologically sensitive, lying close to the historic core of the town and the area of the former Roman fortified town which is protected as a nationally important Scheduled Monument. The investigation revealed a sequence of 3 overburden deposits overlying chalk natural and sealed by a recent topsoil deposit. The earliest overburden deposit may date to the 18th century, all others are 19th to 20th century.
