Abstract:
The Environment Partnership (TEP) Ltd was appointed to undertake a programme of Level 3 Historic Building Recording of the Grade II Listed Alms House at Sutton Cheney. The building was founded in 1612 by Sir William Roberts, one of the freeholders of Sutton Cheney whose tomb is located in the neighbouring 13th century St James' Church. 2. The Alms House was founded to accommodate six elderly and infirm men and comprised a one-and-half storied, stone-built, linear range 22m in length and was divided into six individual residences each measuring approximately 3.5m x 4m. The building's principal elevation was to the west, facing the church, and included a central through passage and paired doorways providing separate access to the rooms.
