Abstract:
Monitoring of drainage works in churchyard. Masonry, with medieval and post-medieval bricks, possibly representing a former buttress was recorded on the south side of the chancel. Just to the west of the doorway in the north aisle some undated in situ brickwork may have been the remains of a small structure around the doorway. Some sample areas of the church footings were recorded. A minimum of eight burials were recorded in a soakaway to the south-west of the church (most were lifted for reburial) and three more were left in situ in a soakaway to the north-west of the church with evidence for burials also coming from another soakaway to the south-east. Pottery, mostly of Late Saxon date, was recovered, also medieval sherds. Two large (joining) pieces of a medieval cross slab were found, they appear to have been used in a former path.
