Abstract: Archaeological observation and recording involving the continuous monitoring of soil stripping by machine down to the level of surviving archaeological horizon, or the upper horizon of the limestone. Machining will stop at the appropriate shallower level. If archaeological features are identified, these will be cordoned off and a strip , map and sample excavation will be carried out. At each subsoil horizon, the surface will be scanned for the presence of archaeological features and deposits. The areas will be cleaned using hand tools to expose the nature and extent of any archaeological features uncovered. Any features will be recorded. Most of the features detected within the proposed development area were created by natural processes such as tree bowls. Most interesting was the distribution of worked flint material, mostly in the north-eastern part of the field. The finds consisted of blades, bladelets, and cores, in addition to more unspecific debitage dating from the Mesolithic to Neolithic or Bronze Age. During fieldwork at the south-west of the PDA, a truncated feature [008] and [006] was revealed and hand excavated. The feature is thought to be related to agricultural activities during the post-medieval period although there is no evidence for its function.
