Defining, Investigating, monitoring and reporting 2008-2011 The Solent has long been recognised for the importance of its marine heritage. The diversity and density of sites makes it one of the most high potential marine areas of England. The marine resources, sheltered anchorages and landing places which have drawn human populations to the area for millennia are also responsible for the modern prosperity of the region. Density of shoreside settlement and industry in addition to one of the busiest marine areas in the UK mean that the marine heritage resource is also under pressure. These factors helped prompt the establishment of the HWTMA which has responded through a research led fieldwork programme, a wide range of dissemination initiatives and input into regional management through coastal fora and groups. The HWTMA are well placed to respond on a regional basis to sites and finds which require investigation and monitoring whether these are underwater or are in the intertidal zone. However, the organisation's capacity to undertake such work is dependant on available resources. This project has provided funding to enable the HWTMA to work together with English Heritage to target work on marine heritage assets to enable more effective regional management and also provide a possible model for cost-effective support for developing national structures. The project has allowed the flexible targeting of site investigation, monitoring and reporting. It has supported: Work on Solent Designated Historic Wreck Sites Investigation and monitoring on non-designated wreck sites

Survey and recording of the remains of LCT(A)2428 and the associated assemblage of historic military vehicles, deposited off Selsey Bill during the build up to D-Day. Work done in collaboration between HWTMA and Southsea Sub Aqua Club. Project formed a pilot study to assess the application of AMAAA(1979) to shipwreck sites located in English territorial waters.

Archaeological review of additional side scan and magnetometer data collected post consent for the Westermost Rough Offshore Wind Farm (WMR01) developed by DONG Energy. Impact assessment, mitigation and recommedations provided.

The report brings together the results of evaluation fieldwork undertaken between 2008 and 2010 following a drop in sediment levels which had exposed parts of the site which had not previously been uncovered. Poor weather conditions meant work was delayed and evaluation took place over several seasons. The results of the work on site was reviewed along with the existing archive to develop an assessment of the research potential of the site.
