IntroductionThe East Herts Archaeological Society was founded in 1898 with the aim of collecting information on all archaeological matters and promoting antiquarian and historical research. The results of the research undertaken by Society members were compiled into 14 volumes of the EHAS Transactions between 1899 and 1961. They contain a total of 348 articles detailing aspects of the history of the eastern half of Hertfordshire, its archaeology, notable individuals and families, significant buildings and interesting documents. A map portraying the area of the county covered by the Society was published at the beginning of Volume 1 Part 2. The digitisation of these Transactions and archiving with the ADS has been supported by a generous grant from the Marc Fitch Fund.
