The ADS and Internet Archaeology are excited to announce the release of a major new collection and monograph detailing the extensive archaeological works undertaken as part of the A14 Huntingdon to Cambridge Road Improvement Scheme.
These excavations, undertaken by a huge collaborative team led by MOLA-Headland Infrastructure, uncovered extensive archaeological remains over 232 hectares (the equivalent of around 800 football pitches)! Excavations took place between 2016 and 2022 and revealed extensive remains including important archaeology of prehistoric, Roman, Saxon and medieval date.
The simultaneous release of an extensive online monograph publication integrated with an online major and complete digital archive represents a significant achievement in what is possible to produce via large scale infrastructure projects.

The ADS Collection
The ADS collection represents the primary digital archive for the A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon archaeological project, organised as a parent collection, covering scheme-wide documents and nine child collections, each containing detailed records for a single landscape block. The collection features:
- Archaeological Site Data available to download as open access resources including reports, specialist reports and blog posts from the excavations
- A query interface to search the entire A14 database
- An interactive map
- A list of 10 collections that form part of the A14 Improvement Scheme

The Internet Archaeology Monograph
The Internet Archaeology monograph is intended to act as a gateway to the project’s findings, synthesizing the results in a series of period-based chapters and linking back to the detailed site and specialist reports and the entire digital archive of the project hosted by the ADS.

The monograph and archive contain a wealth of innovative interactive datasets, all available open source, and over the next few weeks we will highlight some of these specific elements so please keep an eye out for more information on the ADS website and social media channels.
