TEtrACHs Seminar – Smelling the past through big data

We are excited to announce the next seminar of the Transforming data rE-use in ARCHaeology (TEtrARCHs) project.

Dr. Marieke van Erp from, will present on “Smelling the past through big data”.

The seminar will take place at 13:00 (GMT) on Friday 28th February 2025.

Dr. Marieke van Erp will discuss how the mass digitisation of historical records has allowed for a better understanding of what the past smelled like. In this talk the use of interdisciplinary computational methods developed in the H2020 Odeuropa project to see, read and organise smells will be presented.  This allowed for the creation of an openly available database of smell references that can be used by researchers and the public alike to investigate European smells of the past 4 centuries.
