During the excavation all artefacts, including ceramics, were individually recorded as ‘small finds’. The numbering sequence on site ran from 1 to 311, although not all numbers were used. A small number of iron finds, sf199-218, were recovered from the test trench. Subsequently, during post-excavation sorting, additional finds were numbers X1 to X357. In total, the finds database contains information about 475 objects, although 60 were subsequently discarded as natural objects. The classification of the pottery corresponds with that of Austin and Jelley’s pottery report. Both Anglian and possible Anglo-Scandinavian finds are grouped as ‘early medieval’.
