Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of a proposed site redevelopment. There was evidence of extensive levelling within the site and there was no evidence for the course of the town moat that was thought to cross the site. Either the moat had been destroyed by later construction work or the maps on which it appeared were showing a hypothetical alignment. Medieval to post-medieval finds included ceramic building material and pottery. The remains of the 'Lounge' area were evidenced in the remains of a floor and brick structure. [AIP]
