Acknowledgements
We are grateful to Museums Sheffield for access to the archive of the excavations undertaken by the former City Museum at Sheffield Manor Lodge between 1968-80, particularly Sarah Briggs, Ann Chumbley, Kim Streets, Martha Lawrence and Sian Brown. Research on the hunting lodge, including digitisation of the archive, was led by Prof. Dawn Hadley (then of the University of Sheffield, now of the University of York) between 2009 and 2012 and this was funded by a grant from the Higher Education Innovation Fund. Excavations were undertaken at Manor Lodge as part of this project by the University of Sheffield, in collaboration with ARCUS, Wessex Archaeology and Archaeological Research Services Ltd. Research assistance at the time was provided by Deborah Harlan, who wrote reports on the 1968-80 excavations, and Dr Vicky Crewe (both University of Sheffield). We are grateful to Pauline Beswick for her support for this research project, and her advice on the 1968-80 excavations. The excavations at Sheffield Manor Lodge were published in Sheffield Castle: Archaeology, Archives, Regeneration, 1927-2018 (John Moreland & Dawn Hadley, with Milica Rajic & Ashley Tuck; 2020; White Rose University Press; https://doi.org/10.22599/SheffieldCastle). Preparation of the archive for deposition with ADS was funded by the University of York Careers Service Student Internship scheme in 2020, and was undertaken by Eleanor Drew.
