Introduction

This collection comprises images, reports, site records and plans from the historic building recording carried out by MOLA Headland Infrastructure at the Euston Square Gardens and Euston Piazza, Camden, Greater London from December 2017 to February 2018.
Project Summary
As part of the HS2 project a historic building recording of Euston Square Gardens and Euston Plaza or Forecourt was undertaken. At Euston Square Gardens a Level 3 standing building survey was undertaken at the site of Euston Square Gardens to record the railings to the east and west gardens to assess and record the character and significance of the railings which have been registered as Grade II listed (List entry number 1342039) by the English Heritage. In accordance with the Historic England guidelines (Historic England, 2016) Euston Square railings were recorded to a Level 3. A Level 3 provides an analytical record of a building or structure. In relation to this report, a Level 3 gives an account of the railing’s origins, development and use and includes an account of the evidence on which the analysis has been based, including documentary evidence, allowing the validity of the record to be tested in the future. It will also include all drawn and photographic records that may be required to illustrate the railings appearance and structure and support an historical analysis. Typically, a Level 3 record will consist of plan drawings and elevation or sectional views. Photographically the record will include detailed shots, general and views.
As for Euston Plaza or Forecourt a Level 1 historic building record was required to assess and record the character, layout extent, and significance of the various sculptural features within the plaza and their setting. The recording of the features was undertaken in accordance with the following: Historic England Guidelines (HE, 2016); the Heritage Agreement Method Statement (HAMS; Document number: 1EW02-CSJ-HS-MST-S003-000562, Revision-2); the Historic Environment Research and Delivery Strategy (HERDS, Document no: HS2-HS2-EV-STR-000-000015). These included: Sculpture "Piscator" by Eduardo Paolozzi, Statue of Matthew Flinders by Mark Richards, Time Benches by Paul De Monchaux.
