Introduction

This collection comprises images, excavation reports, and specialist reports from the Heritage at Risk (HAR) strand of the WallCAP Project. Information within this archive is ordered by site.
WallCAP, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, combined the ethos of community archaeology to meet key aims relating to the archaeological research, conservation, and management of the Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site. There were two primary strands of focused activity. This collection brings together the results of the Heritage at Risk (HAR) strand. Over the course of the project, WallCAP completed fieldwork at six sites along Hadrian’s Wall, with the aim of improving our knowledge of these sites in order to better protect and manage them, or improving their condition so they could be removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk register. The HAR strand undertook research that met key objectives in the Hadrian’s Wall Research Framework as well as better understanding risks or resolving risks to specific sites. Our key excavations at Cambeck and Corbridge in 2019 and 2021 involved a large number of WallCAP volunteers, who gained valuable experience in excavation, survey and recording techniques.
