Introduction
This collection comprises images and a report of a historic building recording at the junction between Hollis Croft and Broad Lane, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, in advance of the proposed demolition of two historic buildings. The work was undertaken between February and March 2023 by York Archaeology who was commissioned by Bricks Group.
The historic building recording established that number 2 Broad Lane appeared to have originated from the late 18th century as a house although the current form was the result of later substantial alterations established by mid-to late 19th century serving several purposes and functions including a beer house and a post office. The premises were split internally and included two doorways along Broad Lane and an additional one along Hollis Croft. Recent commercial business included the 'West Bar Sandwich Shop' on the ground floor, and 'F. W. Meggitt & Co. Solicitors' within the upper levels.
