This collection consists of images, spreadsheets, databases, vector graphics, reports, GIS site record data from archaeological mitigation works by Wessex Archaeology. Work occurred at Uplands Farm, Stone Cross, East Sussex, from 2018 to 2019.

The aim was to identify any archaeological remains prior to construction of a residential area. The work was carried out as a condition of outline planning permission, granted by Wealdon District Council for up to 82 dwellings on the central part of the application site. A further outline planning permission was also granted for up to 183 dwellings on the application site.

A geophysical survey of the site was undertaken in 2013 and 2016, following this an archaeological trial trenching evaluation was conducted in 2018. The trial trenches were positioned to target anomalies identified in the surveys. The archaeological evaluation originally comprised of 84 trial trenches; however this was reduced to 70 due to onsite constraints such as ecological exclusion areas and issues with access. This includes a further 7 trial trenches that were excavated to evaluate gaps in between trenches to identify the extent of known archaeological features.

From the results of this evaluation, a Strip, Map, and Sample excavation of five areas covering a total of 2 hectares was conducted in 2019. The excavation recovered finds and environmental information related to settlement and salt production (Romano-British) ranging from the Mesolithic to the Early Medieval.
