| Description | Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by WSP, on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, to carry out an archaeological excavation in advance of the re-development of Heaton Lane car park in Stockport (NGR 389123 390395). The excavation was successful in addressing the aims and objectives set out in the Written Scheme of Investigation (WSI). The results of the excavation revealed a palimpsest of 19th and 20th-century archaeological remains. These have been analysed to their full potential and it is recommended that a summary of the existing information be published in an appropriate journal. |
