A new archaeological technique for Gloucester # ground probing radar
M Atkin
30 - 32
The principles of ground probing radar (based on an underwater sonar system with data recorded on tape) are summarised, with a description of the technique's application to three sites in Gloucester. Resultant problems are discussed and work continues to improve definition of results. The system's full potential is becoming apparent and it will be an important complement to excavation on urban sites. AR
Some unusual tiles at Bredon, Oxenton and Tredington
Betty Greene
37 - 38
Note on parallels between these post-medieval floor tiles in the nave of the Norman church at St Giles, Bredon, and also at Oxenton church and Tredington Court. Includes a petrology report which identified the fabric as Coal Measure clay of possibly mid-seventeenth to early-eighteenth century. AR

An Early to Middle Bronze Age cemetery was excavated ahead of gravel extraction. This comprised two beaker inhumations, one within a ring ditch, the other in a flat grave, and a Deverel-Rimbury cremation cemetery enclosed within a causewayed ring ditch. A D-shaped enclosure was also found, but was not dated. Au

Frocester Court excavations 1990--91

Summary of two seasons' excavations at the site, where a presumed Bronze Age track produced a carbon date of c 3000 BC. The trackway, a Bronze Age pit and Iron Age ditch were overlain by a Dark Age timber building which produced some fifth-sixth century pot sherds. Ten coins were recovered, all but one dating from the fourth century. A plunge bath was re-examined and excavations extended in the region of the fourth century villa. AR
