Abstract: The waterlogged area of the site produced quantities of wood, leather, and environmental evidence of particular value for understanding the economy of a medieval friary. In particular the land use of the adjacent meadow and the close links with the Leicester Shoemakers' Guild are attested. Pottery indicates local marketing patterns (and no corporate poverty). Buildings of the two cloisters were excavated; ten main phases are recorded from 12th/13th century to the coming of the railway in 1832.
