Abstract: An Archaeological Watching Brief was carried out during the installation of new sewerpipes as they were laid across Fortingall Rectilinear Enclosure, a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM 8123, NMRS no. NN74NW.39.). The enclosure has been identified from oblique aerial photographs and was believed to be a Monastic Vallum. Two converging pipe trenches were dug and rwere both crossed by remains of a possible revetment wall built into the edge of a river terrace corrosponding with the outter edge of the crop mark. In addition a large stone built wall foundation crossed one of the trenches and may corrospond to a second crop mark within the enclosure. A charcole rich pit was located a few meters to the north of this second wall.
