Abstract: |
The Malt Shovel (formerly Clifton House), now in a residential suburb of Burnley, has been a public house only since the 1970s, and the building began as a yeoman farmhouse, probably early 17th century, before it was enlarged by a dyeworks owner in the early 19th century to become a villa. Historic building recording was carried out for the owners as a condition of planning and listed building consent for the redevelopment at the site, and the record includes measured drawings, photographs, and a written description supplemented by the results of historical research. |
