Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out by Wessex Archaeology during a programme of construction on the Ward Homes area of the overall development at Fulston Manor. Wessex Archaeology had previously undertaken an evaluation across the wider development area, which had uncovered a medieval farmstead to the north west of the current area and prehistoric features to the north and west. The aim of the watching brief was to see whether the archaeological features then identified formed part of a more complex series of structures extending into the watching brief area. Because of the depth of overburden, more than 1m, the watching brief was only undertaken as mitigation for the groundworks of the house plots. No archaeological features or artefacts were seen in any of the excavated areas, suggesting either that features were not affected by the groundworks or that they did not extend into the area. |
