Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 2 hectares of arable land near Nunnery Hill, St. Austell, Cornwall. The site contains two large positive curvilinear features, with further positive linears and point anomalies concentrated in and around these. These all represent cut features of archaeological origin, whilst the point anomalies could represent pitting. Further interpretation is difficult as the anomalies seem to occur sporadically with no apparent overall structure. Other linear anomalies have been interpreted as being of possible archaeological origin. Several short widely spaced parallel anomalies are probably related to ridge-and-furrow. The western margin contains some agricultural marks adjacent to the field boundary, with a small number of magnetic spikes caused by modern metallic debris. |
