Abstract: Excavations by Cambridge Archaeological Unit at this complex site in the Wash fenlands revealed an Iron Age ringwork which fell out of use in the first century AD. The research has produced results of great significance on archaic communities and the processes of Romanisation, the anatomy of defence and the command of labour and territories, total artefact populations and sampling methodology; island identities and the sense of place.
