Abstract: An archaeological evaluation was carried out by GUARD Archaeology Limited on an area proposed for the extension to the existing caravan site at Crofthead Holiday Park, Ayr (Planning reference 15/01231/APPM). The proposed trial trench evaluation was to sample 8% (10,530 m²) of the proposed development area available for trenching (13,1629 hectares). This reduced to 4300 m² during site investigation work due to disturbance to the north and western areas of the site which have seen recent development and the south-eastern corner of the site which contained a large, upstanding bund of dumped soil which impeded trenching. A total of 86 trenches which varied in length between 5 m and 81 m were excavated across the site, with most averaging 50 m in length. During the evaluation no features of archaeological sensitivity were uncovered with field drainage and modern plough marks the only features exposed.
