Abstract: |
An evaluation consisting of three trenches was undertaken on land to the south of Hall Lane, Burgh-le-Marsh, Lincolnshire, as part of a Heritage Impact Assessment in advance of a planning application for a residential development. This was a second phase of evaluation; two trenches had previously been excavated, encountering a possibly early medieval ditch and an undated gully. Two of the present three trenches were targeted on features identified by geophysical survey: one trench identified a post-medieval field boundary filled in in the 1970s, with another undated ditch on a different alignment, while the other encountered a single shallow pit where a cluster had been expected. The third trench was a control, and was negative. Medieval pottery was retrieved from the topsoil, but no stratified dating evidence was found except for modern refuse in the post-medieval boundary ditch. |
