Abstract: |
Planning Permission has been granted by City of Lincoln Council for the 'Erection of a 3 storey rear extension' to Newport Guest House, 26-28 Newport, Lincoln (Planning Application No.: 2013/1037/F). Newport Guest House is located in the north of Lincoln City, within the City's Newport Character Area and No. 9 Conservation Area. It is centred on NGR: SK 97669 72317. According to historic maps, the existing house at 26-28 Newport was built between c. 1868 and 1883. The house fronts on to Newport, which follows the line of Roman Ermine Street, one of the main roads leading out of Roman Lincoln. During that period, much of the land around Newport formed part of the territorium, but has also been shown to contain Roman cremation- and inhumation cemeteries. No archaeological features were observed during monitoring, however Roman layer (102) produced significant amounts of animal bone and pottery. |
