Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and recording was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for a new extension to the existing property at Cottage Farm, Fen Road, Washingborough. The development site lies close to the Carr Dyke, a Roman canal constructed in the early 2nd century to control flood waters between Lincoln and Peterborough. The majority of the site proved to be archaeologically sterile; however the edge of Carr Dyke was encountered in the northern leg of the extension footings. This enabled a profile of the dyke to be recorded. No finds were recovered from the dyke itself. |
