Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological works was undertaken by AOC Archaeology prior to the construction of a residential development at 9-11 Horne Terrace, Edinburgh. The works comprised the monitoring of the modern floor slab removal, an archaeological evaluation and further monitoring within the scheduled area of the Union Canal. The initial monitoring of the floor slab revealed a circular cobbled area to the NE of the development area possibly associated with the use of the building as a blacksmith. The remainder of the development area was archaeologically sterile, with the evaluation showing up to 1.3 m of made ground overlying the natural grey clay. |
