Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological metal detection, observation, investigation and recording was undertaken during groundwork associated with the excavation of trenches for electricity cables at Hill Top Farm, Hodgson Lane, Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire. An area of burnt material and clay at least 5.50m in diameter was observed immediately beneath the topsoil during the excavation of the main trench, but this was most likely modern in origin. Several corroded ferrous objects were found during metal detecting, but all seemed most likely to have been associated with recent farming activity. |
