Abstract: |
The work associated with this project was carried out on the 8th December 2021 by staff from HFA, in accordance with the written scheme of investigation for archaeological observation, investigation and recording produced by HFA, (Atkinson, D. August 2021), and with reference to the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists 2014 (a) Standard and Guidance for archaeological field evaluation and (b) Standard and Guidance for archaeological watching brief.
The scheme of works comprised the monitoring of the excavation of the foundation trenches for the new extension.
Standard Humber Field Archaeology recording procedures were used throughout; each identified feature was allocated a context number, with written descriptions recorded on pro forma sheets. Plans and sections were drawn to scale on pre-printed permatrace sheets. A digital photographic record was maintained. The locations of the trenches and the level of the features were surveyed relative to the Ordnance Survey National Grid. Finds encountered were recorded to professional standards using recognised procedures and numbering systems compatible with the accessioning system employed by the recipient museums service (in this case East Riding of Yorkshire Museums Service). In December 2021 a programme of archaeological excavation and recording was undertaken by Humber Field Archaeology in advance of the construction of an extension to the side and rear of 28 Grange Park, Brough, East Riding of Yorkshire.
Monitoring of the excavation of the foundations for the extension revealed only natural sand below the topsoil and drive. The only features identified were modern foul and water pipes cutting across the foundation.
No artefacts were recovered. |
