Abstract: |
Monitoring was was undertaken on the scheduled site of Hickling Priory during the construction of a small building linking the present farmhouse to the adjacent outbuildings. No in situ deposits relating to the use of priory were encountered during the works, all deposits appearing to be post-medieval in origin. Building material originating from the priory buildings was noted in the walls of the farmhouse and outbuildings. It was interesting to note that limestone blocks were used for the footings of the farmhouse although the visible elements of the building are mainly constructed of flint with brick the occasional re-used limestone block. |
