We are excited to announce that on the 29th April the ADS will be launching two new OASIS+ modules in Archaeobotany and Zooarchaeology. These modules were funded as part of the Rewilding later prehistory project led by Dr Anwen Cooper. The project was funded by the UKRI and is a research collaboration between Oxford Archaeology, the Universities of Oxford and Exeter, the Archaeology Data Service, Historic England and Knepp Castle Estate.
When successfully embedded into the archaeological practice planning framework these modules will greatly enhance the sharing, signposting and interoperability of archaeobotanical and zooarchaeological data, building digital connections. Better informed planning and sampling decisions will be possible as well as closer connections between specialists and the digital archiving procedures and ultimately better-quality specialist reporting, research and sense of inclusion within the planning system.
CIfA Conference 2026
Both new modules will be launched at a focused workshop at the CIfA conference this year in Edinburgh. ‘Launching OASIS+ modules in archaeobotany and zooarchaeology’ will be a workshop aimed at archivists, specialists, managers, local authority planners and other potentially interested parties.
During this session speakers will showcase the modules as well as demonstrate how to enter records. Attendees will also be able to preview the search interface which will provide access not only to the information entered into the modules but also to information derived from existing digital resources such as the Roman Rural Settlement project and the Historic England Regional Review datasets. As part of the workshop, participants are welcome to bring their own laptops and have a go using the system.
We look forward to meeting you to celebrate this launch!
