Abstract: excavation of various waterfront features within an important medieval settlement revealed complex reclamation works in the harbour area, the nature of waterfront development being largely dictated by the very high tidal range of the river Severn and the difficulty of navigation. Archaeobotanical evidence of silting and pollution problems from refuse is supported by a series of ordinances relating to refuse disposal. Shipbuilding was a major medieval and post-medieval industry and evidence for tanning, fulling, horn- and clothworking, and soapmaking is recorded
