Explores links between the archaeological evidence for cauldron deposition during the European Iron Age and the mythology of cauldrons as presented in medieval vernacular texts of Wales and Ireland. It is suggested that the later redactors of the myths had either observed examples of ancient cauldrons or learned about them through oral tradition.

An architectural and documentary study of the tower attributed to the eleventh-century Bishop Gundulf, which is situated close to the south choir aisle. Comparative examples are presented. It is suggested that the structure it dates from the early post-Conquest period -- pre-Gundulf -- and it is considered more likely originally to have been a defensive structure than a bell tower.

The contracts dating from the early 1460s are transcribed and interpreted, and their terms explained in a glossary. The documents relate to four domestic properties in Bury St Edmunds and a barn at nearby Bradfield Combust.

Presents a group of unusually large, rectangular ceramic tiles that were excavated from the abbey church. The tiles were handmade locally, using the sgraffiato technique with inscriptions in English. The tiles are thought to have originally been used in the late-fifteenth or early-sixteenth century over a grave in the retrochoir.

Discusses a nineteenth-century rubbing of an inscribed grave slab from Carcassonne (France). The slab is believed to be that of the Simon de Monfort, who was slain at the siege of Toulouse.
