This week a large group of staff here at the ADS will travel to Amsterdam to attend the Computer Applications and Quantitative Method in Archaeology (CAA) International conference. This is the 50th anniversary conference for the organisation, which brings together an international audience of archaeologists, mathematicians, and computer scientists.
ADS staff will have a strong presence at the conference, organising several sessions and delivering a number of presentations. Below is a list of the sessions and presentations given by ADS staff on each day on the conference:
Tuesday 4th April 2023
Session 13. An inventory of the Sea: our shared marine heritage challenges and opportunities – Organised by Peter McKeague, Historic Environment Scotland, Professor Julian Richards, Archaeology Data Service, University of York and Dr Clare Postlethwaite, MEDIN Coordinator, National Oceanography Centre.
- ‘Aggregating the UK’s maritime data in Unpath’d Waters’ – a paper presented by Julian Richards (ADS), Jamie Bradley (ADS), Jamie G Geddes (ADS) and Holly Wright (ADS).

Session 22. Machine and deep learning methods in archaeological research – creating an integrated community
- ‘A comparison of machine learning and rule-based approaches for text mining in the archaeology domain, across three languages’ – a paper presented by Alex Brandsen (Universiteit Leiden), Andreas Vlachidis (UCL) and Alphaeus G W Lien-Talks (University of York, Historic England, ADS).
