New features for ADS archives to be launched in April

We are excited to announce an overhaul of the ADS archive pages, which will enhance the user experience of our collections. From April, ADS archives will  boast a series of new features that provide an accessible, intuitive and easy to use experience. A significant area of development has been updates to the Collection Metadata pages, which will now more closely reflect FAIR data requirements

These new innovations were discussed in a recent blog post by ADS Deputy Director Dr Tim Evans at the beginning of this year.

The improvements to the archive pages include:

  • An updated style to match the new ADS website, and which meet modern accessibility requirements
  • The inclusion of infinite scroll, which allows users to scroll down through more content automatically, eliminating the need to click to the next page.
  • The ability to search images within a collection by keyword.
  • Better signposting of related collections, and hierarchies within collections.
  • An updated map interface (using Leaflet) for the metadata page of each collection.
  • The ability to preview both video and audio files before you download.
  • The ability to preview images in an updated object metadata page.
  • Enhanced keyboard navigation.

These changes will come into effect in April of this year. After this date all new collections deposited with the ADS will be presented in this updated format, while past collections will be migrated to this style over time.

More information about this new innovation will be available in March – keep an eye out for the next Soundbytes blog post from Tim.
