This week, the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) will be reaching out to our users and partners in the commercial archaeology and heritage sectors to invite them to participate in a new survey. This survey aims to gather insights on user preferences for depositing data with ADS, focusing on the practices of those who entrust us with their data for long-term curation. Additionally, it explores payment options and access policies for future users.
The project, conducted by Dr Richard Lee, from the ADS, focuses on enhancing the role of the organisation as a premier digital archive for heritage and archaeological data in the UK. As the sole accredited digital archive in England for heritage data, the ADS plays a pivotal role in the UK archaeology sector. By engaging with the market, fostering relationships, and enhancing client services, we aim for growth in our services, income and long-term sustainability to provide open-access to the digital data for all users.
The survey will only take six minutes to complete, and it will help guide the project in understanding the current state of digital data deposition. The survey will be open until October 31st, 2024. You can complete the survey here.
If you have any questions about the survey please contact the ADS helpdesk (help@archaeologydataservice.ac.uk).
