This project explored the cultural and biological experience of immigrant communities in Roman Britain. It has long been known from epigraphic and historical sources that Britain was home to a wide range of immigrants during the Roman period, with most of the evidence referring to imperial officials and military personnel. Using a range of scientific techniques, we have identified possible migrants in the burial record of Roman Britain. n addition to academic publications, a teaching resource for Key Stage 2 'Romans Revealed' website has been developed, which presents four individuals selected from our research (some locals and some incomers) and children can explore them either through 'digging up' their graves or through following short stories written by Caroline Lawrence (author of children's books 'Roman Mysteries) and illustrated by Aaron Watson.
April 2013: New European Project LoCloud Website Now Live
LoCloud (Local Content in a Europeana Cloud) was officially launched in March 2013, at the National Archives of Norway in Oslo. LoCloud (Local Content in a Europeana Cloud) was officially launched in March 2013, at the National Archives of Norway in Oslo. The three year project brings together 32 partners from 28 different countries, to address the issue of content from small and medium local institutions, such as museums, archives and libraries being underrepresented in the digital European arena. LoCloud aims to develop cloud-based technology and services to help small and medium local institutions to aggregate their digital resources and make them accessible on-line, via Europeana.eu, the European Library, Museum and Archive. LoCloud relies on a large group of technical partners, content providers, aggregating services and partners with specific expertise which make together a very strong consortium. The ADS has a role in most of the project workpackages and will lead work on dissemination and use, organising events, and networking and promoting services.

ARIADNE (Advanced Research Infrastructure for Archaeological Dataset Networking) was officially launched in February 2013, at the National Library in Rome. ADS is the deputy co-ordinator for this four year project which combines 24 project partners from 16 countries. ARIADNE has as its objective creating a research infrastructure connecting European digital archaeological data archives and allowing researchers to access to data centres, tools and guidance. ARIADNE aims to stimulate new research in the field of archaeology by opening up access to data scattered amongst diverse collections, datasets, fieldwork reports and publications. The ADS role in ARIADNE is sharing the scientific coordination, leading the workpackage on transnational access, expanding good practice guidance, as well as participating in most of the other areas of activity.

The Archaeology Data Service and the Society of Museum Archaeologists are pleased to announce that the Archaeological Collections Areas Database and Map archive has been updated. This digital archive contains details of three projects undertaken by the Society of Museum Archaeologists in 2002, 2006 and 2012, and an updated resource for the use of archaeologists working across England. This is the Archaeological Collections Areas Database and Map, first created ten years ago. The interactive Map provides an easy way to access details of organisations that are accepting archaeological archives (related to Local Authority boundaries) and indicates which areas do not currently have a repository available.
