ADS staff will be out in force for the Center for Digital Heritage extravaganza of summer events taking place this July.
Centre for Digital Heritage Summer School
10 – 11th July 2014. Berrick Saul Building, Heslington Campus, University of York.
The events begin with a new summer school aimed at Postgraduates and Early Career Researchers in the Digital Heritage domain. Digital technologies play an increasingly significant role in heritage research. However despite their prevalence and potential it can be difficult to know how to integrate digital methods successfully into your own work. The CDH summer school is designed to help newcomers from any discipline learn the essential skills needed to build and run a successful digital heritage project; from getting the funding to archiving your data. Day 1 will focus on getting started. We will find out what makes a good digital heritage project and will go through the design process step by step. The day will feature guest lectures from the Digital Curation Centre, and funding experts, as well as from digital heritage researchers who have been awarded substantial grants for digital heritage research projects. Day two will be dedicated to the effective management of your project and the delivery of results. ADS will be contributing guest lectures and will help facilitate group activities.
Attendance is free to all White Rose (York, Sheffield, Leeds) research students and staff and includes overnight accommodation if needed.

The goal of The Heritage Jam is to bring people together to design and create forward-thinking pieces of heritage visualisation. The Heritage Jam is open to anyone interested in the way heritage is visualised: we call to artists, animators, designers, programmers, archaeologists, historians, conservators, museum professionals, heritage practitioners, and any interested members of the public to join forces and collaborate.
The Heritage Jam will take place on the 11th of July, coinciding with the Centre for Digital Heritage conference on the 12th of July, where your work will be submitted to our exhibition showcase and competition.
Digital Heritage 2014: Digital Communities in Action

Digital Heritage is an annual international and interdisciplinary conference hosted by the Centre for Digital Heritage aimed at anybody with an interest in the study or representation of the past using digital technology.This year theme is ‘Digital Communities in Action’ and we have a wide range of presentations each dealing with the role of communities and concepts of community in Digital Heritage research. The keynote address will be given by Catherine Clarke, Professor in English at the University of Southampton.
