A post-Roman cemetery was discovered during a watching brief on a gas pipeline construction project in south Devon. The cemetery was not fully exposed within the corridor, but 111 graves were identified, of which forty-seven were excavated. The cemetery was potentially in use from the fifth to the eighth century AD. The graves were aligned east--west and there was good evidence for the use of wooden coffins; grave goods did not appear to be present and the survival of human bone was very poor. Within the area excavated five square or rectangular ditched burial enclosures were recorded; four contained a single burial and one a multiple burial. Recording work undertaken in late April 1992 on the site of a prehistoric hillslope enclosure at North Hill Cleave, Bittadon, revealed new information about the site in the form of an additional enclosure delimited by a substantial ditch and its eroded bank.

Small-scale excavations are described at three locations in the lower Exe Valley in the parishes of Thorverton and Rewe, on the sites of known rectilinear cropmarks. Despite the existence of surface finds at Overland and Turnspit, excavation was necessary to determine more precise dates for all three sites. Limited sondage produced an interesting range of ceramic finds which suggested that Overland was probably the site of a Romano-British villa with Turnspit and Rewe Cross possibly being Romano-British farmsteads.
